Our Mission & How It Began
Mission Statement
Our dream is to offer children with cancer and their families a place of retreat in an environment of fun, friendship and love.
Camp History
The Camp Magical Moments dream began in 2003 when a former executive director of the American Cancer Society, Ann Walsh, moved to the beautiful southeastern Idaho mountains along the South Fork of the Snake River. This founder’s hope was to create a camping experience for children who have had or currently have cancer, allowing them the opportunity to get away from their disease and just to be kids for one week. This magical Camp takes place on Hansen Guest Ranch where the kids can enjoy rock climbing, horseback riding, and lots of great camp experiences!
In the summer of 2004 a group of volunteers was formed, and it was the mission of all of these volunteers to offer the best camping experience for each and every one of these children. They were/are still committed to providing an environment of fun, friendship and love, all in a medically supervised atmosphere where the camper’s medical needs are met.
Here we are this many years later, offering not only our weekly oncology camp but also offering 3 additional camps for family members! Who would have thought we would be where we are today?
Staff and Volunteers
Each year, we are blessed and fortunate to have people from all across the country volunteer their time and energy (and we need lots of it!) to make sure that each and every camp experience is the best and the most memorable it can be! All volunteers go through an extensive background check and training before we host our camps that involve our precious children.
